After years of playing and coaching netball at a senior level, including taking to the court more than 400 times, she now has a new accolade to her name.
Bechaz was named AFL Riverina's volunteer of the year for the South West Junior Football and Netball League during their virtual presentation evening recently.
Bechaz said the honour did come as a shock as she was certain there were "plenty more people who have done a lot more than I have".
"I had no idea I was even nominated ... it was a huge shock and really humbling," she said.
"I'm the junior football operations manager for the Crows and I've been doing a lot of netball umpiring for the juniors as well.
"I had to delegate a lot this year because I'm working in Griffith ... so I had a lot of helpers who really made life easier. It was a whole team effort from a lot of people."
It was another huge year for the junior club with the majority of football and netball teams making the finals and were gunning for premierships.
However, the season was halted and then eventually called off when lockdown measures and ongoing restrictions to community sport were introduced.
The Leeton-Whitton junior club was also awarded the club championship on the night.
"It was disappointing for the kids after the hard work they put in all season," Bechaz said.
"While it was a lot of effort for a whole year with nothing much at the end, it's about the bigger picture and everyone's health and safety.
"We have been very privileged to play sport and do what we do for most of this year."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Bechaz said volunteers were crucial to running sporting organisations in Leeton, as well as other community groups and charities.
She said volunteering was something her parents did when she was younger so it was normal for her to carry that on.
"Volunteers are crucial ... the more people who put their hand up, the easier it is for everyone," Bechaz said.
Bechaz also thanked her family for their help and support throughout the year.
