Leeton Touch's Jackson Goman said the announcement around community sport was welcome news.
"We sort of assumed it was coming, and there are still a few hurdles that we have to jump through, but it is good to get back out there and have some people run around," he said.
The issues facing community sport in relation to the double vaccination requirement does have the start of the senior competitions still up in the air.
"We have put out a bit of a survey to find that information out, however, we have got a bit of a response, and we are just trying to work it out," he said.
"A lot of our competition is supported by the boarding schools, so Yanco and some of the borders from St Francis so how the rules are impacted there.
"We are hopeful that it will (start) in some capacity, but any delays means that there will be impacts at the other end of the season.
"We are just weighing it all up at the moment and will have to make a call on what we think will work best."

One of the options being considered is holding off until December 1, when it is expected community sport would become open to everyone regardless of vaccination status, but Goman recognises that would see the end of the season clash with the preseason of winter sports.
Another consideration is to start straight away and have alternative options for those who can join at a later stage.
Meanwhile, there is still a call out for anyone interested in playing in the junior competitions to get their registrations in ahead of the Thursday, October 28 start date.
" I think people are looking to get involved and do things again," he said.
"It is looking ok at the moment, but we are calling out for some more and leaving registrations open until the end of the week to allow people to get the message out there.
The primary school competition just requires individual registrations, and players will be placed into teams, while for the year seven and eight competition, team registrations also remain open.
