A toss of coins and a crisp handful of notes are what travelling lyricist Philip McNamara is used to when busking, however on one unlikely day of performances in Griffith, he found an item of value in his guitar case - a ring.

Sitting at the base of the escalators at Griffith Central, Mr McNamara was singing, playing his guitar and tapping his foot along to his harmonica when somewhere in the flurry of activity and shoppers going in and out of the centre, someone threw in some coins, and with them a ring.
According to Mr McNamara, there was no way the ring could have been given to him on purpose.
"You have to imagine, someone walks in, grabs their purse and three or four coins to toss into my guitar case and they don't notice and I don't notice because its not something that you would expect," Mr McNamara said.
"If I had seen who threw the ring in I would have immediately run after them, I would love to return the ring to its rightful owner."

Mr McNamara has had the ring in his possession for approximately a fortnight, carefully holding onto it in the hopes of returning it to the person who gave it away without realising.
"There is a silver stamp on the inside and a shine as though it is composed of diamonds," Mr McNamara said.
"Regardless of the monetary value, I am sure it has sentimental value for someone to be carrying it around with them in their wallet.
"It really would just be great to get the ring back with its rightful owner."
If you think this ring is yours, Mr McNamara will be back busking at Griffith Central this weekend. You can also contact him on 0497 389 118.
Until then, Mr McNamara says he will continue to carefully guard it ahead of its reuniting with its rightful wearer.
