The RFS noted that with current weather conditions and wind speed, fires can start easily and spread rapidly, putting life, property and crops at risk.
"It is your responsibility to limit the ignition and prevent the spread of fires from your property. This includes fires that may start due to harvesting operations," the NSW RFS website reads.
"NSW RFS appreciates the cooperation of farmers on days of heightened fire danger. Stopping harvesting until weather conditions ease lowers the risk of fires breaking out and can prevent a great deal of damage."
The service is urging farmers and harvesters to stop harvesting, consult the 'Grain Harvesting Guide' and check both weather conditions and the equipment before making a decision on whether to continue the harvest.
The safety alert covers Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Narrandera and the Murrumbidgee areas.
