Until February 5, police will be actively pursuing 'Summer Safe 2021,' this year's safety campaign. The campaign is a statewide high-visibility strategy focusing resources on crime prevention, alcohol-related crime and road safety in particular.
Acting Sergeant Kerryn Lawler said that drugs and firearms would also be focused on as part of an ongoing push.
"Alcohol related violence - that's our big one this year. We'll have domestic violence and licensing operations running over Christmas and the new year as well," she said.
"We're pushing bushfire danger as well."
The domestic violence operation will be the continuation of a recent '16 Days of Activism' campaign to address domestic violence across NSW, and includes compliance checks, proactive checks targeting known offenders and providing additional support to those at risk.
The statewide campaign ran from November 25 to December 10, but Griffith's campaign is continuing.
IN OTHER NEWS:
NSW Police Corporate Sponsor for Domestic and Family Violence, Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker said that the focus wouldn't waver.
"Police remain committed to preventing domestic and family violence, supporting victims, and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable 365 days of the year," she said.
"It is vital that we continue to check on the safety of victims and their children."
On the highways, the highway patrol will be monitoring the roads closely and cracking down on dangerous driving.
"There'll be a strong Traffic and Highway Patrol presence on our roads targeting the four D's - drink, drug, distracted and dangerous driving - as well as speeding and driving while fatigued, to ensure everyone gets to the destination safely," said a spokesperson for the Highway Patrol.
