MOTORISTS throughout the festive period in Leeton shire appeared to pay little notice to warnings issued by police in the lead up to Christmas and New Year.
Leeton police made many arrests for traffic offences ranging from speeding and disqualified driving to driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
In one matter, police stopped a silver Mitsubishi Lancer in Lightwood Street around 9.40am on December 23. Checks showed the 23-year-old man had been disqualified from driving until January, 2022. He was issued with a court attendance notice.
On Christmas night around 9.50pm, police stopped the driver of a white Ford utility in Belah Street for a roadside breath test. The 56-year-old man returned a positive result and he was placed under arrest and taken to Leeton Police Station where he returned a secondary test of 0.102.
The man was issued with a court attendance notice and his licence was suspended.
Other incidents included:
Police also suspended the licence of a 21-year-old woman on January 3 after she was allegedly detected driving 137kmh in an 80kmh zone on Irrigation Way at Yanco.
When stopped by police the female driver stated she was late for work. She was issued with an infringement notice and her licence was suspended for six months.
