“I was always a little skeptical about entering the Leeton SunRice Festival Ambassador Competition, but not once have I regretted saying yes,” she said.
“It was obviously a little daunting at first, but once you get past that and realise you’re doing such a great thing for the community, it feels great.”
Despite those initial doubts, Ms Fitzsimon went on to take out the title.

Ambassador Quest co-ordinator Cheryl Whymark says quest entrants often get out as much as they put in.
“It really gives the opportunity for a male or female to give back to the local community,” Mrs Whymark said.
“Sometimes people who have never been involved in it before find they get so much more out of it than just being on a committee.”
The Ambassador Quest involves a series of fundraising events from December 1 through to Easter.
Money raised goes back to the Ambassador Quest entrant’s committee, the community and the SunRice festival itself who distribute it back into the town.
Each entrant has a committee to back them throughout the quest.
Ms Fitzsimon described her involvement with the competition as “the opportunity of a lifetime”.
“If you’ve ever even slightly considered signing up for the Ambassador Competition, I highly recommend you do. You might even be lucky enough to walk away with the trip of a lifetime.”
Events can be everything from trivia nights, street stalls and gala balls to dress up parties, lawn bowls competitions and any other fundraising initiative.
They meet different people, mix in different circles and realise just how much the town has to offer.
