Leeton Shire Council hosted a Bike Week event on Saturday to encourage more residents to get on their bike and experience all of the resulting benefits.
During September, towns across NSW come alive as part of NSW Bike Week, which is an initiative of the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), local government and communities.
It celebrates and encourages bicycling for health and everyday transportation.
Council’s road safety officer Kym Snow was impressed with the turnout.
“Families and individuals took the opportunity to ride and walk on the shared cycle ways around Leeton,” she said.
“Some also made use of the bike training facility and the skate park.
“Participants took part in the various activities, including a bike week photo booth, face painting and guessing competition.
“There was also a surprise visit from bubbleologist Dr Froth and his monster bubbles.”
Throughout the event a bike technician from Eurells of Leeton’s conducted free maintenance checks to ensure safety on the road and the cycleways.
All registered participants received a free bike safety sample bag full of bike safety information and goodies.
“A great day was enjoyed by all in the spring sunshine with lots of bike riding, bike safety and smiles,” Ms Snow said.
