The success of last year was topped this year, with over 200 residents showing up right at the start at 4.00pm.
Councillor Sandra Nardi, representing the Mayor George Weston, was blown away with the turn-out at the start of the event.
“Generally by the end of the day it gets a little busier, and at this stage it definitely looks like a better turn out than 2017 already,” she said.
While last year’s temperature was not quite as hot, meaning more people came out, and numbers were expected to be down a little due to the long weekend, nothing stopped the die-hard celebrators coming out for a dip, mingle and fun in the sun.
“I think everyone is really happy, we have the free entry, the free slide, free barbecue,” Cr Nardi said.
“The DJ is here, and really with everything we have you couldn’t really ask for anything better.”
With the committee scaling back the party for a few years, Cr Nardi went around making sure that Leeton still loves its party, and says she sees the event continuing next year.
And her favorite part of the day: The fact that everybody came with families.
“Everyone has come out together and we are all mingling and having a really great time.”
“Happy Australia Day everyone!”
