United took on North Ryde at Leeton last Saturday in warm conditions with the game getting underway late in the afternoon.
Despite the 1-0 loss, Trofogli said United played a solid game.
The Sydney side was young and quick, but United was able to keep the pace.
The sole goal of the match was scored off a set piece.
“It’s disappointing the goal was scored against us in that way because I thought we had been doing a good job in holding them out,” the assistant coach said.
“They were young and very quick, but I think we matched up against them pretty well.
“It’s a knockout competition, so we don't get another chance at it now, but I thought it was a good outing for us.”
United has been training hard over the last six weeks to prepare for the upcoming Football Wagga competition.
United’s first grade side is again being coached by Mick Doolin, who led them to a top-four finish during Leeton’s return to the Football Wagga competition last year.

Frank Alampi will also be an assistant coach.
Several new faces are expected to feature in the first grade side this year, but the majority of the team will be similar to last year.
“We’ll keep working hard at training,” Trifogli said.
“There’s a lot we can take out of the FFA Cup match.”
United is also looking to confirm a date and venue for a trial match, this time against the Riverina Rhinos under 18s Griffith representative time.
“We’re just trying to confirm those details, but hopefully it will be next weekend,” Trifogli said.
A fortnight ago United traveled to Albury to take part in the Andronicos Cup.
While also not securing a win there, the opportunity to take the field was what mattered.
“We’re testing a few things out and seeing how we go,” Trifogli said.
The man of the match during last weekend’s FFA Cup fixture went to Leeton’s Scott Munro.
