During the early hours of Saturday morning last week a Leeton man was assaulted while walking home.
The man was walking on Kurrajong Avenue near Church Street when a car pulled up.
Several people got out of the vehicle with one of them allegedly punching the victim, who fell to the footpath and was required to seek medical attention at the Leeton District Hospital.
Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.
In other news, police have also warned the community to be on alert if they live on a rural property.
The caution comes following numerous thefts from Leeton shire farming properties in the last week.
In one incident, chainsaws were stolen from a property at Euroley on Tuesday afternoon.
A description of the vehicle and driver was given to police, with the offending vehicle seen driving off with the chainsaws on the back.
The previous day, a chainsaw was also taken from a property on Lillypilly Road and, on Saturday, 100 litres of diesel was taken from a grader from another property in the shire. Chief Inspector John Wadsworth said residents living on rural properties or farms should be on alert.
“We want people to be vigilant,” he said. “What we do know is there does appear to be an increase in rural theft crime in our area at the moment.

“It’s important for people to be locking up their sheds and any property they have. Even though you’re out of town, you can still be affected by these types of crime.” Chief Inspector Wadsworth also recommended having items inscribed and serial numbers recorded.
“If we can have these serial numbers, it often makes it easy to return items if we are able to locate them,” he said. “If you do see or notice something suspicious call us. If you think you are witnessing a crime taking place, don’t hesitate to call Triple Zero.”
