United started the match slowly and were down 2-0 at half-time.
Assistant coach Joe Trifogli said after last week's excellent showing against Henwood Park the team was a bit flat.
“I think the boys find it hard to come out of those high intensity games and into a match against a lower-placed team who they knew wouldn’t be playing finals,” he said.
“That’s no disrespect to Tumut either. They are a very good side.”
At the end of the first half the team were told a few home truths during the break before coming out with a much-improved performance in the second stanza.
United were also without Joey Fondacaro, Adam Raso and Erik Listmann on Sunday, which allowed for several other players to stand up and be noticed in the hopes of being selected for finals football.

“Nick Trifogli was back in first grade after spending some time in reserves … I thought he played really well on Sunday,” he said.
“Munya Kawara was also very good. He was probably our best player.
“He scored our first goal through a beautiful bicycle kick, It was a fantastic goal.”
Luke Mandaglio scored United’s other goal on Sunday.
Despite having several chances and shots on goal in the second half, United were unable to break through for a win and had to settle for the draw.
“We definitely played much better in the second half,” Trifogli said.
“Scott Munro and Anthony Trifogli were among our other best players too.”
It was a big weekend for Leeton United who held a reunion for the 1993 first grade premiership team on Saturday night.
Their focus this weekend will be to train hard in preparation for their elimination final against Young in Wagga on Sunday after officially finishing fifth in the home and away season.
“Hopefully we’ll have those three players back (Raso, Fondacaro and Listmann), which will probably cause some selection headaches for our coach Mick Doolin,” Trifogli said.
