Played on Saturday night at Rawlings Park, United went into the match undefeated after three early victories to start the season.
Going into the game, both sides were expected a tough, but even contest and that's what was served up from both sides.
Early yellow cards were handed down to both teams from the referees, but it was Lake Albert who found the net first on the night.
Conor Edenden was able to get Leeton on the board soon after, with the teams going into the main break at one goal apiece.

Coach Frank Alampi was disappointed with the loss, but was pleased with certain aspects of United's game.
"After that first goal from Lake Albert, the boys could have dropped their heads, but they didn't," he said.
"That's been a real positive this year for us.
"There's been times where the boys could have dropped their heads, but they've chosen to fight back."
The second half was much of the same and, while Leeton were dominating early, errors were at play.
This meant Lake Albert were able to slot another goal, leaving the score sitting at 2-1 in their favour.
Nick Trifogli scored for United soon after, but much to the dismay of Leeton's supporters, Lake Albert found the effort once more, with the final score 3-2.
"A lot of their goals came from individual errors on our behalf," Alampi said.
"That was really disappointing from my perspective, but I suppose at the same time you can look at it in the way that that is something you can fix.
"If it's a mistake made by an individual, rather than a whole team mistake, you can easily fix that."
United had also been due to play a State Cup match on Sunday morning, but St Mary's forfeited late on Thursday afternoon, meaning Leeton will now progress to the next round.
In terms of their next Football Wagga match up they will travel to Tumut this weekend.
They now sit in fourth spot on the Pascoe Cup ladder, but are on equal points with those who are sitting in second and third.
