Calan is this week in Sydney representing with MacKillop at the state athletics carnival after successfully making his way through all of the selection hoops.
First off Calan excelled at St Joseph's school athletics carnival. His success there led him to the next level, which is deanery, with that carnival held in Griffith.
That event involved Catholic school students from Leeton, Narrandera, Coleambally and Griffith.
From there he was again successful in moving to the next level after producing some top performances on the track and field. After again succeeding, he represented at the Diocesan carnival in Albury where he was selected in the MacKillop team to represent in Sydney.

Calan, who is in year six, will be running in the 1500 metres and 800 metres events, as well as participating in the high jump category.
"With my running I was using footy training (Junior Crows football) as a bit of a way to prepare for Sydney," Calan said.
"I do some laps as well.
"My favourite event is high jump.
"I've made it to state before in high jump. It should be pretty tough this time, but I'll see how I go.
"Last year I was equal third or fourth in the high jump with six or seven people (at state)."
Chelsea also made it through the several representative levels, including at the diocesan carnival in Albury.
She won the 800 metres at Diocesan level.
Chelsea is a busy athlete, who also spends many hours of her time after school training in the dance studio.
She enjoys running with her father and her older brother.
"I like giving myself a bit of a challenge with athletics," Chelsea said.
"It pushes me and improves what I do and I really enjoy it."
Calan would one day like to play Aussie Rules professionally, while Chelsea hopes to possibly become a dancer.
