The chamber is again pushing that message, with businesses jumping on board to do their part in enticing shoppers to spend their precious dollars in town in the lead up to Christmas.
Participating businesses are taking part in a "16 days of giveaways" campaign, which is already underway.

The chamber has also stepped up to offer a cash prize, which is to be spent in Leeton.
This will all culminate with a mini Christmas carnival, late night shopping and mega giveaway on December 19 where over $2000 will be handed out on the night to lucky local shoppers.
Chamber president Wayne Bond said the idea was to keep this year's shop local campaign simple.
"As the chamber, we are promoting the shops doing their own thing in terms of their giveaways and we've put money towards the big giveaway (on December 19)," he said.
"I think people are listening when it comes to the idea of shopping locally, but I think they just need reminding that it's so important and why it's important.
"There's more to it than just saving a couple of dollars on a product somewhere else instead of buying it here. If you shop online, you're missing out on the customer service.
"You're helping a local family, who will then spend their money in town. So many of our local businesses also sponsor and support many events, groups and sporting clubs in town.
"That's why it's so important we support them."
The chamber also held its annual general meeting recently, with Mr Bond staying on as president for another term.
Jodie Ryan is vice president, Krystal Roden secretary and Rachael Lashbrook treasurer.
Several new faces have also joined the chamber's board, which is already looking to 2020 and new ways to engage the business community.
"We've got many plans in the works for next year," Mr Bond said.
