RURAL Fire Service crews spent 10 hours bringing a hay stack fire under control at JBS Riverina on Sunday.

The Yanco and Fivebough rural brigades, as well as a crew from Leeton Fire and Rescue were called to the blaze just before 5.30am on Sunday.
The latter was tasked with putting out spot fires to prevent the flames from spreading, while the RFS worked to extinguish the blaze itself.
Hazard reduction burning around the stack was also required.
"It takes some time to put these types of fires out because you have to separate the stack to make sure you've put it out properly," Yanco brigade captain Pat O'Callaghan said.

JBS loaders were used to help pull the stack apart and the the scene was eventually declared safe.
Members of these RFS brigades and Leeton Fire and Rescue are also spending their Christmas on the fire fronts throughout NSW.
