The team hit the road on Saturday for the clash, which also marked their first away game of the season.
It proved a fruitful road trip for the side, with the Dianas picking up a 17-7 win.
However, coach Stuart Stout said the team did have to work for their success.
"It was a bit of a scrappy game ... Hay played a real type of spoiling rugby to start with and our girls found that a bit hard to adjust to," he said.
"We were the first to score, but then Hay scored quickly after that and converted, so we were down 5-7 at half-time."

However, after a discussion at the break, the Dianas knew what they had to do - use their forward power to their advantage and get back into the game.
That's exactly what they were able to do and their first win was finally a reality.
The confidence-boosting win now holds the Dianas in good stead as they again take to the road this weekend, this time against the Wagga Waratahs.
The Waratahs are yet to register a win this season, but the Dianas know the Wagga side is a tough, fast-paced opposition.
However, should they pick up a back-to-back triumph, they could very well see themselves move up the ladder.
"Waratahs have a very young and fast team ... they play a quick game," Stout said.
"We'll need to come up with a game plan to negate that.
"It's going to be a difficult game to get into."
What will work to Leeton's benefit will be their player numbers, allowing for many options across the field.
Stout said critical to another win this weekend would be getting off to a flying start early on in the match.
"We don't want to be on the back foot again ... we want to start well and then maintain that for the whole game, not just 10 minutes here or 10 minutes there," he said.
The match will kick off at Conolly Park from 2.05pm on Saturday.
