The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds late on Tuesday morning, with peak gusts of more than 90km/h expected in western parts of the state during the day and into the evening.
Griffith, Hillston and Hay are covered by the forecast area, with Leeton right on the edge.
The warning covers much of the centre of the state, impacting three entire and parts of 10 forecast zones including the Riverina.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences
- Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall
- Stay vigilant and monitor conditions
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
