Second half goals to Adam Raso and Fred Gardner has seen United pick up the three points and jump Henwood Park with two games remaining before finals.
Coach Frank Alampi was pleased with the improvements his side showed in the second half of the game.
"Performance-wise the second half was a lot better than the first," he said.
"It was pretty warm yesterday, and they struggled with that a little bit in the first half. In the second half, the boys probably got used to it a little bit and knocked the ball around a lot better.
"Much happier with the second half performance than I was with the first."
While being at the top of the table is nice, Alampi knows there is still work that needs to be done in the final two games before finals get underway.
"They have done well to get up there, but we are taking it a week at a time," he said.
"We have South Wagga this week, so we just have to concentrate on them, and where ever we end up we end up."
While Alampi said the finishers from Gardner and Raso were quality, it was the leadup play which pleased the Leeton coach.
"Raso got his goal from a fantastic through ball from Anthony Trifogli, and the first goal was brilliant play from the team and a great finish from Freddy Gardner, but the football was really good from front to back was really good that was the pleasing part," he said.
"The boys really played for each other yesterday, better than they have done all year, especially in the second half and I was impressed with that.
"You need the quality in the box to finish which Raso and Fred provided, but at the end of the day, we pride ourselves on wanting to play good football.
"That's what we are about, we don't want to play long stuff the two goals came from good football, especially the first goal."
It was also a special day for Raso as he played his 150th first grade game for United.
"Raso was skipper for the day, we usually do it for milestone games," he said.
"He was frustrated with himself early after he missed a couple of passes he thought he should have made, but he was able to shake that off and led the team well."
United will now prepare to play their two washed-out rounds before heading into finals starting with an away trip to take on South Wagga and then finish the regular season with a clash with Lake Albert.
The Sharks will be fighting to keep their finals hopes alive as they are currently one point outside the top four.
