Police received reports of a possible contamination in Wodonga on Sunday after posts were shared on social media.
Wodonga detectives are investigating the matter.
A spokeswoman urged people to take care when consuming fruit.
"The matter will now be investigated to try and determine what has occurred, as this investigation is ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment further about the incident at this time," the spokeswoman said.

It is important to note that many of the reports result in no criminal activity being detected.
"Police are appealing for people to take care when consuming fruit and urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
No oranges were available for sale at the White Box Rise store on Monday morning, but the product could still be purchased at the Aldi on Elgin Boulevard in Wodonga.
