Will Pizzolante, Zane Lyons, Dylan Gordon, Lachlan Holden and Seth O'Loughlin have been taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge throughout October, raising money to help young people fight cancer. They are also being joined by two of teachers from Leeton High School in Joey Longford and Jacob Storer.
Originally the group set out to raise $500, but that amount has been eclipsed in a big way, with their current tally sitting at more than $5000.
The Great Cycle Challenge is a national Children's Medical Research Institute fundraising initiative held throughout the month of October.
MORE NEWS:
People of all ages, abilities and from every state across the country set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout October to fight kids' cancer.
It was Will, a current year 12 student at Leeton High School, who came across the initiative while scrolling on Instagram and decided to get his friends involved.
"I saw an ad for it pop up on Instagram and thought it sounded like a really good idea, especially because it raises money for kids with cancer," Will said.
"We usually get together as a group and go for a ride when we can, so we thought why not try something like at the same time?
"We've still been doing that, but also trying to do bigger rides during the month as well."
The group is expected to possibly clock up around 1000 kilometres between them for the month.
They've been trying to ride together as a group, but have also been notching up the kilometres during solo trips on the bike.
"The support we've had has been really good, we've had some businesses donate too, so we want to thank them," Will said.
"It's good to be able to do something like this with your mates."
Cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia.
Over 600 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer every year and three will die every week.
It's also not too late to donate to the group's final tally.
