That project is now a step closer after concept drawings of the extension were released to the community this week.
The project will result in the skate park being expanded by an additional 370m2.
Preliminary works will include the erection of site fencing and the removal of two palm trees growing where the new section of the skate park will be built.
While the site fencing will close off the worksite to the public for safety reasons, 85 per cent of the existing skate park will remain open for use throughout the construction period.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Council's manager open space and recreation Josh Clyne said said work was expected to be completed by the end of June.
He said contractors will need to fence off the area where the older and new sections of the skate park will be joined, but skateboarders can continue to make use of the remaining area.
"We went to great lengths to seek feedback from local skateboarders and to include that feedback in the design for the expanded skate park, so the final product should be perfect for them," Mr Clyne said.
In preparation for the skate park expansion, council recently installed a new concrete path to enable the public to skirt around the skate park on their way from the stadium to the Leeton Soldiers Club.
Precision Skate Parks has been awarded the contract by council to conduct the work.
