A FIERY crash had the crowd at Leeton's Brobenah Speedway holding their collective breath on Saturday night.

The speedway was hosting its first event in two years when an accident during the heats resulted in a man being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney for emergency treatment.
Emergency services were quick to the scene of the accident, which police said occurred about 8pm on track when the driver lost control of his vehicle, hitting a wall on the southern side of the speedway.
The car rolled a number of times and burst into flames.

The man was removed from the vehicle and first told paramedics "he was okay", but he did have burns to 40 per cent of his body.
On Monday, police said his injuries were deemed to be "non life threatening".
There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.
Police will be reviewing video of the incident and will speak to the driver in the coming days.
The vehicle has been seized and will undergo mechanical testing.
Racing was able to continue after the track was cleared on Saturday evening.
