The Sharks were able to take the lead in the early stages of the game before the Hawks wrestled back the momentum to take the advantage heading into the break.
The second half started with an arm wrestle before the Hawks were able to take control to secure the 22-point victory.
Elwyn Ravu and Lachie Pengelly scored two tries each for the Yanco side.
Co-coach Kane Hammond was pleased with how his side was able to overcome their tough start to the clash.
"We went out there and played some really good footy in patches and come away with a pretty good win in the end," he said.
"We were behind early on and found a way to get ourselves back in front at halftime."
Having struggled in the back end of the second half in their season opener against the Waratahs, Hammond was pleased to see his side able to close out the game.
"Our last 20 minutes was the best part of our game," he said.
"Whereas against the Tahs, it was our worst part, so that was really pleasing."
In the eyes of Hammond, the performance of Ravu at hooker was the best on the day.
"Elwyn Ravu was a standout," he said.
"He had one of the more complete games he could have had."
The Hawks first grade will now have the bye this weekend as the club takes on Hay.
Due to the difficulties the Magpies were facing, they were granted permission to field a reserve grade side and forgo a first-grade team for this season.

Hammond said his side would be using the extra week to fix up a couple of areas of concern coming out of the clash from the Sharks.
"We have two weeks to work hard and get to training and try to keep on improving," he said.
"We will be working on our completions and to be better defensively so that we don't leak as many points.
"It was probably the only negative that we had for the day really was that we probably let in a few too many easy tries."
Next in the sights of the Hawks first-grade side will be the Black and Whites, who they will take on at Solar Mad Stadium on Saturday, May 22.
The Panthers were able to send a message this weekend, having picked up a 56-12 win over the Waratahs Tigers in the Griffith derby.
The Yanco's reserve graders will have their work cut out for them this weekend against a side featuring a number of Hay's first graders from 2019.
