Despite having David Collett in the sin bin for a late hit on Simpson, The Hawks pulled another try back with Will Kelly getting over the line before, with 28 minutes remaining, Simpson suffered his unfortunate accident.
After a 20-minute break, while Simpson was attended to, the Black and Whites were able to pile on the points.

Peato wrapped up the game with his third of the game and gave the Black and Whites a 58-10 victory.
Hawks co-coach Kane Hammond felt it was just a case of coming up against a well-drilled outfit.
"The Black and Whites were very classy right across the field, and they were able to get the jump on us early, and we just couldn't play catch up foot," he said.
"They got away from us early, and we couldn't get back in, and the longer the game went, I thought they got better and better.
"They are a big side with momentum, and that is very hard to stop."
This weekend will see the first-grade side have yet another break as they head into the bye, meaning they will have only played one game in three weeks.
"We are finding it a bit hard to get into a rhythm and work on our combinations," he said.
"We have two weeks at training to really work on the areas of concern.
"There were far too many penalties and drop balls, so that is something that we need to be better at."
It won't get easier for the Hawks as after the bye, they will head to Ron Crowe Oval to take on West Wyalong.
