Of particular cause for concern, is that the highly contagious delta strain of the virus has an almost 100% transmission rate for those not vaccinated, with Australian health officials warning it no longer takes up to 15 minutes to pass along the virus, but instead now a 'fleeting moment' of just five to ten seconds.
And whilst Leeton has managed to avoid community transmission in this outbreak so far after a June scare in Narrandera with a contagious traveler coming through from Melbourne, the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is strongly encouraging community members to continue getting tested if they show even the slightest of symptoms or have been in Greater Sydney since June 21.
"Testing is critical for detecting the virus early, and the MLHD will continue to work closely with private pathology providers and GP led respiratory clinics to ensure access to testing" MLHD COVID-19 Coordinator Emma Field said.
