Mr King departed the position after moving interstate, with Robyn Retallick elected to the role.
Mrs Retallick has been a member of Light Up Leeton for about six years after being convinced by her sisters and fellow committee members - Gwen Spadaro and Julie Maytom - to give it a go.
"What I really love about Light Up Leeton is not just the fact it's a Christmas event, but the community concert ... it's a chance for so many of our children to perform in front of their families and friends," Mrs Retallick said.
"I also enjoy the fact the community groups can raise money on the day of Light Up Leeton as well.
"It's a great community event that is really special to Leeton."
Mrs Retallick said while she was slightly nervous taking on the top role, she has plenty of support from the committee behind her.
"In a normal year I think Carl will come back for the event because he loves it too ... he said he is always a phone call or email away if we need help," she said.
Light Up Leeton isn't going ahead in its usual format in 2021 again due to uncertainty and difficulties surrounding COVID rules.
However, the committee is still hopeful to spread plenty of festive cheer.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We are looking at having a night where we light up the Visitor Information Centre again and possibly having our community groups with stalls a No. 3 Oval," Mrs Retallick said.
"That way there is more open space, we have better access points for people to enter and leave. This way our community groups can still benefit.
Depending on what we can and can't do we'd love to have a singer there as well and hopefully a visit from Santa."
One big goal on Mrs Retallick's list as chairman is to attract more young people to the committee.
"That's what we really need to start looking at ... we need more young people involved and it really doesn't take up too much time at all," she said.
Residents have also been encouraged to light up their homes in 2021 as part of the festivities.
