The Fivebough-Stony Point unit recently took ownership of a new category seven fire truck, with the older appliance set to move on to another brigade in the area.
The truck comes with many new features the former appliance didn't have, according to Fivebough-Stony Point senior deputy captain John Pattison.
"We've got an electric hose reel, which is really handy," Mr Pattison said.
"There's also the new RFS colours on the side compared to the old trucks, as well as the new crew protection in the cabin."
The Fivebough-Stony Point brigade is a vital cog in the MIA's RFS wheel.
IN OTHER NEWS:
It is currently upgrading its shed facility, which in an emergency for its area will be the hub for other brigades responding.
This upgrade will also allow for better training facilities for not just the Fivebough-Stony Point brigade, but others in the shire who have helped and contributed financially to make it happen.
As with most brigades in the area, Fivebough-Stony Point is on the hunt for new members to join their ranks.
"We're always after new members," Mr Pattison said.
"This is a great brigade to be part of. It doesn't have to be huge commitment, we aren't busy all of the time.
"We provide all of the training. It's a good thing to experience and be part of.
"I have always loved the camaraderie of being part of the RFS."
With the warm weather now here, Mr Pattison reminded residents of their responsibilities during fire season.
He reminded those conducting burns they must obtain a permit from the RFS MIA Zone, as well as alerting their neighbours of the date they will be conducting a burn.
"The permit is a legal requirement, and alerting your neighbours to the burn basically saves us from being called out to something that we don't need to be at," Mr Pattison said.
"Apart from that we just encourage people to do the basics. Maintain fire breaks, clear any areas from rubbish and overgrown grass. It's basic preparation that really helps."
If you would like to find out more information about joining the Fivebough-Stony Point brigade contact Mr Pattison or head out to the unit's shed headquarters at the intersection of Vance Road and Grigg Road on a Tuesday night around 6pm when training is usually taking place.
