LEETON police are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in Pine Avenue on New Year's Day.

Police said the incident occurred around 1.30am on January 1 when a 28-year-old man was walking in Pine Avenue with a group of friends after leaving a licensed premises.
The 28-year-old was then allegedly assaulted by an unknown man, knocking him to the ground unconscious.
IN OTHER NEWS:
He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Griffith for further treatment.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to contact Leeton police or Crime Stoppers.

IN OTHER news a 49-year-old man was also taken to Griffith hospital after an accident in Leeton on New Year's Eve.
The man was driving a red utility on Lonnie Road around 10.45pm when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle, crashing into an irrigation channel.
He was taken to Griffith hospital in a stable condition.
