Mrs Mickan has signed on as an entrant in this year’s Leeton SunRice Festival Ambassador Quest and said she couldn’t be more excited to be taking part.
After living in Griffith until the tender age of five, she moved with her family to Leeton and said the festival had always been something she looked forward to every second Easter.
She is currently employed at SunRice, who have signed on to be her committee for the quest, with Kurrajong Waratah her selected charity.
“Their vision is for people with disability to lead a life of their choice,” Mrs Mickan said.
“I just think it’s good for our community (to have selected Kurrajong Waratah).
“It’s good our ‘major’ charities are supported, but I wanted to choose something that isn’t out there as much or gets as much funding.”
Mrs Mickan was already going to play a role in this year’s festival, having signed up with the SunRice committee to help out where possible.

“They always help with the festival, so I joined and they were talking about putting in an ambassador, so I read the criteria and said to them I would give it a go,” she said.
Mrs Mickan grew up attending school at Parkview Public followed by Leeton High School.
She said being part of the quest was a challenge she was looking forward to.
“It will be good to meet new people and do more for my town and raising some money,” Mrs Mickan said.
“I think it’s going to be fun, especially being involved during the actual festival.
“I love how they shut down the street for the parade and everyone is there. All the floats. I used to be in Brownies so I’ve been part of the parade, it’s good fun.”
Mrs Mickan and her committee have various events planned ahead of the festival, including a trivia night, major raffle and a Mexican Feast complete with a Bingo competition.
“I’ve got a really good committee behind me and they’ve been part of this before,” she said.
“I think the Mexican Feast will be a really great night out for everyone.
