The Leeton United football club junior competition kicked off recently, with 200 players signing up.
Last year some of the club’s equipment was damaged by vandals, but a loan from Leeton Shire Council has ensured new goals have been purchased to ensure the youngsters don’t miss out.
This year the club has has joined up kids in the mini-roos program for ages four to nine. They are put into teams depending on ages and play at 10 and 11am depending on their age group. The players will be going through small coaching drills before each game, led by senior players to develop soccer skills before having a game.

“(This will) hopefully improve and develop their soccer skills and make it a more enjoyable experience playing soccer,” club president Rod Harrison said.
“This year we have had assistance from council in helping us purchase four sets of portable goals. We are also going to conduct a mini-roos coaching clinic to help train some more parents as team helpers.
“We are always looking for helpers on the day with many of us not having kids playing. It’s time to find that next group of parents coming through, so talk to one of the team leaders on Saturday and we can get on board “
