Libby Bates started a petition three years ago, calling for Leeton Shire Council to install new playground equipment at the small village’s park.
This wish came to life recently, but last week vandals struck, leaving Mrs Bates unimpressed.
“Council has told us if we don’t look after it, we will use it,” she said.
“In this case I think it someone trying to use the barbecue, which can be a bit tricky, and when they became frustrated they’ve thrown eggs and things all over the equipment.
“It’s not acceptable. I wasn’t happy about it.”
The total project cost of the upgrade work at the park was $64,000 with $20,000 coming via grant funding from the federal government’s stronger communities program.
Mrs Bates would like to see even more projects completed in Wamoon and is happy to put in the hard yards.
“I moved to Wamoon about four years ago and started the petition because there wasn’t much here in the park,” she said.
“I would like to do a lot for Wamoon. I’ve been working with the school on their outdoor learning garden, but I’m thinking about starting a charity if I can get some committee people to back me up.”
Some residents in Wamoon see the village as being “forgotten” by council and it technically no longer exists on a map, now coming under the banner of Leeton.
However, Mrs Bates is on a mission to do what she can to improve the village for everyone. “If we can get a charity happening that would be great,” she said.

“Ideally the money we would raise would go towards maybe a splash park, perhaps creating an activity hall with a resource centre in it, a hall for the locals to have their events and hire it out for charity.
“It’s a matter of getting it up and running and getting a few people to be part of it.” Residents who would like to be involved in creating the charity should contact Mrs Bates to find out how they can assist.
