The Leeton Touch Football Association will next week start its Tiny Touch Football Competition for those in kindergarten to year 2.
Association member Jackson Goman said the mini games and activities that will make up the competition will focus on fun and basic skills.
"As a committee we thought we would explore other options to include this age group as they have previously not been a part of any competitions," Goman said.
"This is mainly due to the fact that the committee is of few members and time is limited when we usually run the primary school 3-6 competition, a 7-8 competition, and open men's, women's and mixed competitions.
"In order to give this a go, we have also started a bit earlier in the year.
"It seemed like a good option as many of the winter sports are concluding, and summer sports won't really get up and running until next term."
The competition will get underway on August 13 at the Leeton town ovals and will run every Tuesday for six weeks from 4.45pm to 5.30pm.
MORE SPORT
"The aim is to incorporate a variety of mini games and activities to help build knowledge and interest in the sport, as well as to develop a range of sport specific and fundamental movement skills," Goman said.
"Some of these skills will be transferable to many different sports too.
"Parents are encouraged to stay and be involved with their child, and even when it comes to game times, we would like parents out on the field assisting."
It is hoped through this competition, the sport will continue to build its profile in Leeton, with players then able to progress on to the other competitions as they grow older.
