AN ALLEGED thief has tried to pull the wool over the eyes of Leeton's police, saying he was in a house that had been broken into "with the consent of the owner".

Police have alleged the 31-year-old man broke into a home in Yanco on December 28 around 10.30pm while the residents were away on holiday.
The man is accused of stealing electronics, tools and jewellery from the home.
Leeton police were contacted after witnesses reported a "suspicious vehicle" being at the property and they attended a short time later, allegedly finding the man still there.
Officers spoke with alleged offender, who they said tried to tell them he was there with consent of the owner.
Police confirmed this was a lie.

The man was arrested and charged with break and enter.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Leeton Local Court on January 12.
Christmas thieves
POLICE are also seeking information into a break and enter offence at Murrami on December 25 about 9.45pm.
CCTV footage shows a male person with a tattoo on his right bicep and a vehicle similar to a Holden Rodeo with black bull bar.

Firebugs still at it
MEANWHILE, police are also investigating after more grass fires were lit between Whitton and Leeton.
Among those was a fire along Back Whitton Road on Boxing Day around 11.30pm.
Three fires are believed to have been deliberately lit during the evening with the Rural Fire Service in attendance to put them out.
Police said the investigation in relation to the fires is ongoing.
