The Leeton ladies are now taking part in the Leonard women's competition after making the move up from the Madden division.
Leeton's first game was held almost a fortnight ago at the Mia Club Oval against the Tolland Wolves Football Club with a minute silence held in memory of the late Stephanie Scott, who played for both clubs.
Tolland scored the first goal of the game early in the first half, which was the only score of the first-half.
The second half had the Leeton women put up another consistent display of defence in their fight, but Tolland scored again in the 70th minute from outside the box and continued on to further their score and defeat Leeton 6-0 at full-time.
Players' player as voted by the Leeton side was Mel Broad for her performance in defence. Broad was strongly supported by Sally Dennis. Coach Paul Burley said Broad worked hard in defence to stop what could have been more goals from Tolland.
The Leeton Leonard ladies will play Wagga United on Sunday, with Burley hoping to see the team improve on passing and not giving possession back to the opposition as often.
Town soccer
THE Leeton United Local Junior football competition for 2021 kicked off last weekend.
The A grade side started training last Thursday night and the 5s, 6/7s and 8/9 years ran out on Saturday morning.
With all the excitement buzzing from the club's youngest new and returning players and families, the day was held to much success.
The kids all came together at the start to enjoy some skills together before being split into their teams and allocated fields to enjoy a mini game against each other.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The club is pleased to see a huge amount of players registered and showing interest this year, especially having a higher number of girls put their names down.
This has given the club the opportunity to have its first all girls team in the 8/9 year age group.
"It is very exciting to see what opportunities this will open up for the club in the future," club member Scott Munro said.
There were around 145 children attend on Saturday that were registered to play, along with a few late registrations in the other junior grades and the five-year-old side.
Junior soccer continues this weekend.
