Last Friday the Leeton and District Water Wheel Garden Club presented the groups with donations as a result of their open gardens event which was held on Easter Monday.
“This is the club’s gift to the community, both in terms of encouraging people to garden by inspiring them with new ideas, and distributing a good deal of the profits to community organisations working locally,” president Jeanine Bird said.
“It was an absolute pleasure to hear each group give an overview of their activities.
“Speaking to people afterwards, each were in awe of the things everyone else does in our community, but they were doing it too.

“We have an amazing community, with so many generous people giving their time so freely.
“It is a pleasure for our club members to be able to contribute towards our community by helping out in a small way.”
Each year the club decides who the beneficiaries will be and, this year, the three major beneficiaries were Can Assist, the hospital auxiliary and the Leeton Town Band.
Nine other organisations also received cheques:
- Leeton 1st Leeton Scouts
- Leeton Community Op Shop
- Friends of Pastoral Care
- JumpStart
- Leeton Girl Guides
- MIA branch of MS Australia
- State Emergency Service
- Steppin’ Out 4 Youth
- The Volunteer Rescue Association
“The presentation is also a way of saying thank you to our sponsors and the garden owners who open their gardens to the public,” Mrs Bird said.
“They too are involved in presenting the cheques to the recipient organisations.
“We are so thankful for their generosity and to those who support the six open gardens each Easter Monday, enjoying music and lunch or a cuppa in a beautiful garden.
“I am very grateful to our club members who work so hard to make it all happen.”
