The Leeton Show Society may not have been able to have its annual event in 2020, but the committee has progressed with improvements to the showground in preparation for 2021.
Leeton Show Society president Bill Aliendi president has announced work will be commencing in January on the new Cola to be built over the existing netball court.
"This excellent project will not only give the Show Society an extra pavilion for use by exhibitors during the show weekend, but will also provide the Whitton-Leeton Football and Netball Club an all-weather court for 2021, society secretary Janne Skewes said.
This project is being funded by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and Leeton Show Society.
The Society also received $1000 from Leeton Shire Council to assist in the completion of the project, as well as a further $1000 from the SunRice Festival's Ambassador Quest program.
In more good news for the group, the society has been successful in receiving a grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) to upgrade the existing 105-year-old office and tea room at the showground.
"Along with the building work, the grant will also be used to purchase office furniture and much-needed computers, laptops, printers, IPads, Eftpos facilities and an upgrade of the internet service," Mrs Skewes said.
Crown Lands has also helped the society with a grant, which will enable the new office to be painted and air-conditioned, allowing use of the office 12 months of the year for not-for-profit organisations in the shire.
